We host a board game events monthly. These events are free and open to the public. We have lots of games in our library at NEM, or feel free to bring one (or more!) to teach folks to play. Food and drink are welcome but not provided.
Board game night is designed to be a fun, causal event for people to get together and enjoy an evening of gaming. In order to keep things fun for everyone, we have some guidelines for everyone to follow.
Have Fun! – This isn’t a tournament, and the end goal is for everyone to walk away having had a great time.
Be respectful – Everyone is coming from a different background. Some of us are boring, and some of us are excited, and some of us are weird. Let’s all show respect for each other, regardless of how different they may be.
Be patient – some people have been playing board games for decades, and some people may be playing their first board game today. Rules are complicated, and people make mistakes. Take the time for those who may need a little help.
Keep the tension within the game, not the players – board games are inherently confrontational. Regardless of how the game is going, we all need to keep in mind that the goal is to have fun, and not to win at all costs. If you feel that you’re getting a little heated, feel free to take a short break and come back. We want interactions between people to be calm and polite, regardless of how many victory points they may have just stolen away from you.
Keep noise/energy at an appropriate level – It’s fine to celebrate victory, and to feel upset when things aren’t going well. Please keep in mind that there are others in the room around you. Too much noise and energy (both positive and negative) can be a large distraction to others in the space.
Do not let Emily win 🤣 – This is the most important rule. It has been written in the stars that if Emily ever reaches 47,983 total victory points, the world will collapse and the great Azathoth will devour us all. At all costs we must not let this happen. If need be, she can be easily distracted with sparkly objects, or medium sized bits of cheese. Whatever you do, don’t allow her to obtain the path from New York to Nashville in Ticket To Ride. We don’t want a repeat of the Eastlake border incident of 2013.
Thank you for coming and playing board games!
