PDF sewing patterns have grown in popularity as an alternative to paper patterns. NEM has set up a projector and cutting table that allow patterns to be projected directly onto fabric and cut out using a rotary cutting tool. It takes care to ensure the pattern/projector are properly calibrated, but with a little experience the process can be significantly faster than traditional methods.

Cutting a pattern using the projector

The projector has a Chromecast connected to the HDMI input, so you can either connect from the computer across from the cutting table or from your own laptop. It is critical when projecting patterns that the projected size is accurate to the original pattern; we use the Pattern Projector app to calibrate the scale and project/manipulate pdf patterns.

Projecting sewing patterns at NEM involves the following steps:

• Turn on the projector using the remote
• Connect to the Brightlink Projector Chromecast
  • Open the Chrome browser, then click the three dots in the upper right
  • Click Cast, save, and share→Cast…
  • Under Sources, select Cast Screen, then click Brightlink Projector
  • Your computer screen should now be projecting onto the cutting table
• Open the Pattern Projector app and follow the instructions here to calibrate the projected image and load your file
